A big library is a blessing and a curse. Search a popular character on adultgpt and you're browsing through a pool of tens of thousands of posts. Most of them are not what you had in mind. The solution isn't a better search engine — it's a better query. Here's the ladder we use, from broad to laser-focused.
Step 1: add a second tag (AND logic)
Every extra included tag multiplies the constraint. A single tag like +princess_zelda returns everything; adding +animated cuts it to
animated posts only; adding a copyright tag pins it to
one series. Two or three well-chosen tags are usually enough:
+samus_aran;+animated— from 16k+ posts to just the animated ones. Try it
Step 2: exclude the noise
Often the problem isn't what's missing — it's what keeps showing up. Excludes
(-tag) are surgical: -animated for stills, -comic for single images instead of multi-page dumps. One or two excludes
typically remove the majority of unwanted results:
+harry_potter;-animated— stills only. Try it
Step 3: optional tags for "any of these"
Sometimes you don't want one specific thing, you want a family of things. Optional
tags (~) are OR logic: ~princess_peach;~princess_daisy matches posts
with Peach or Daisy. This is how you widen a too-narrow search without going all the way back
to a single tag:
~princess_peach;~princess_zelda;~princess_rosalina;~princess_daisy— any Nintendo princess. Try it
Step 4: let the crowd pre-filter
After narrowing the topic, narrow the quality. A score filter like score>=20 removes everything the community didn't bother liking, and sorting by
score puts the winners first. This is the single biggest perceived-quality jump you can make —

Step 5: lock in the turn-offs
If you keep excluding the same tags in every search, stop re-typing them — build a blacklist or a supertag of excludes once and let it filter silently forever.
The mental model
Think of every search as a funnel: include tags define the topic, excludes remove the noise, optionals widen within the topic, and score filters curate the quality. Four moves, any order — and suddenly a 16-million-post library behaves like a hand-curated gallery.
