18+ only. This guide discusses adult content and is intended for adult audiences.
Every tag on booru sites belongs to one of five types. The type tells you what the tag describes — an artist, a character, a franchise, a visual element, or information about the post itself. Knowing the types makes searching dramatically easier, because you can guess what a tag looks like before you search it. In the adultgpt search bar, each tag shows its type as an icon right before the name.
Artist
Target artists and content creators. Artist tags use underscores instead of spaces — aroma_sensei, for example. If you find an artist whose style you like, searching
their tag is the fastest way to see everything they've uploaded:
+aroma_sensei— everything by this artist. Try it
Character
A specific character — samus_aran, princess_zelda, 2b. Character tags are the most searched type by far. Note that very similar
characters often have disambiguation suffixes, so trust the autocomplete suggestions over your
own spelling.
+samus_aran;+animated— animated Samus posts. Try it
Copyright
The franchise, series or game a post belongs to — harry_potter, metroid, genshin_impact. Copyright tags are perfect for broad browsing
when you like a universe more than one specific character. They're also the standard way to
narrow a search: one copyright tag plus one general tag already gives you a very targeted
result set.
+harry_potter— everything from the franchise. Try it
General
Everything that describes the content of the image without fitting the other types —
poses, acts, clothing, settings, art styles. General tags are the largest category and the ones
you'll mostly use for exclude operations: if you dislike something, it's almost certainly a
general tag, and prefixing it with - removes it from every result.
Meta
Meta tags describe the post, not the content: animated, video, gif, sound, comic, high_res. They're the key to format filtering — see our guide on filtering videos vs images for the full playbook.
Supertag (adultgpt exclusive)
On adultgpt there's a sixth type you won't find anywhere else: the supertag — your own saved collection of tags that works as a single one-click preset. Supertags are perfect for exclude lists and fandom presets. Read the supertag guide to set yours up.
Count
Every tag suggestion also shows its count — how many posts carry it. A low count isn't bad, but it tells you what to expect: a tag with 300 posts is a niche pick, one with 3 million is a broad one. For supertags the count shows how many tags the collection contains.
